Northern Family Kitchen is a family-run recipe and regional food website. It brings together family recipes, North East food traditions and the stories behind them, sharing the ways people cook, eat and talk about food at home.
We test changes in a practical way
The website is also used to test and improve how visitors discover recipes, navigate the site and subscribe to the newsletter. Improvements are tested rather than based entirely on guesswork, so we can learn what helps people find what they need and what feels more natural to use.
Some of the things we look at include newsletter button wording, recipe page layouts, headlines and introductions, navigation and calls to action, and the position of photographs and recipe details. That means we can make small changes, notice what helps, and build on what works.
Recipes, stories and perspectives from the people who use them
The contributors provide their own recipes, experiences and regional perspectives, so the site is shaped by the people who know these dishes best. The website is also used to explore how those stories are discovered and understood online, with some of those experiments run through FreeCROTool.
